Azerbaijan may soon switch to hourly wage system
Azerbaijan's transition to an hourly wage system may happen in the near future.
Member of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, and Entrepreneurship of the Milli Majlis, MP Vugar Bayramov, shared this information on his Facebook page, noting that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population has reported ongoing work on preparing relevant draft laws.
According to V. Bayramov, the experience of developed countries shows that the hourly wage system has several advantages: "This model provides workers with additional compensation for overtime hours - that is, for time worked beyond the regular schedule. Moreover, it expands opportunities for holding multiple jobs, which is also an important factor."
The MP emphasizes that the introduction of the new mechanism means that wages will be calculated not on a monthly basis, but hourly: "On one hand, this will allow for more accurate accounting of actual working hours and lead to an increase in citizens' income. On the other hand, a worker will be able to work in several places simultaneously with differentiated hourly rates, which will also serve as an additional source of income. Drawing on international experience, work on weekends and outside standard working hours may involve the application of higher coefficients and, accordingly, higher pay. Overall, this is a mechanism already tested in developed countries, and its main goal is to ensure a fairer and higher valuation of citizens' labor."
"Of course, during the development process, appropriate criteria will be established, including minimum hourly rates. At the same time, the minimum hourly wage should be aligned with the minimum monthly salary and exceed it on an hourly basis. Work on forming the new mechanism is already underway, and the timeline for its introduction will be announced after the final agreements are completed. In any case, the implementation of this mechanism will be a significant innovation in the wage system," Vugar Bayramov concluded.
