Azerbaijan's foreign currency reserves exceed $90 billion
Speaking at an event held as part of the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, President Ilham Aliyev noted that one of the important areas is that our foreign currency reserves exceed the foreign debt by 20 times.
This was reported on his Facebook page by Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, who also noted the following: "2026 is one of the important years in terms of increasing our foreign currency reserves. While at the end of 2025 Azerbaijan's strategic foreign currency reserves amounted to $85.1 billion, this year this figure already exceeds $90 billion."
V. Bayramov notes that Azerbaijan is one of the few states whose strategic foreign currency reserves exceed gross domestic product (GDP): "In particular, Azerbaijan's foreign currency reserves exceed the annual GDP volume by 12%. By this indicator, Azerbaijan is among the world's top ten. This also testifies to the formation of a solid 'safety cushion' in the country's economy."
"Currently, the assets of the State Oil Fund amount to $73 billion. The Central Bank's reserves, which at the end of 2025 amounted to $11.5 billion, grew to $15.3 billion in 2026. The growth of foreign currency reserves in the remaining months of 2026, along with the fulfillment of the envisaged fiscal obligations, should be regarded as the result of a systemic economic policy," the deputy sums up, noting that the policy pursued under the leadership of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, taking into account the goals of sustainable economic development, creates opportunities for long-term provision of the country's economic security.
